I Will Remember You:

Kind. Artsy. Generous spirit. Nerd. Goofball. Oh-so-stubborn. Giraffe-lover. Voracious book reader. Beautiful inside-and-out.

I will remember you:

How important education was to you and what a good mother you were. Thank you for the fun times I had tagging along on adventures with you and your son.

I will remember you:

“You’re climbing Mt. Everest,” I’d say to you over and over, like my mom says about when we face the hardest struggles.

I will remember you:

You had a giant heart and it was broken. You said your heart had “a big hole” that not just anything could fill. I told you “don’t be so abstract, let’s talk about behaviors,” and you knitted me a scarf.

I will remember you:

I will make a donation to the Howard Center and tell them how much their work means in our community. I thank you for what you shared with me and taught me.

I miss our friendship very much.

With much love,
Emmy

A poem written by my mother, Mary McLaughlin
October 24, 2011

Chant:
the psalmist’s  instrument
with its mission to
produce a canticle
of the soul’s yearnings.
Lilting melodies of supplication,
lamentation, and praise that orbit the sanctuary.
A long ago cry from David’s lips

transfigured at midpoint
as hope that rises,
a satellite of faith,
transmitted into the cosmos
and to the Son’s compassionate ear.

in honor of sweet molly!

It's a few minutes now until Molly's appointment. She lived a good, long 16 years! She was such a funny cat, mischievious, and brought a lot of joy. Thank you sweet Molly for being in my life!

Those of you from high school might remember this song I made up our senior year. Of course I sang it well into college, so you folks might remember it, too.

School's almost out,
almost time for Mol-ly,
you can call her Cur-ly,
Curly Girl for short.
School's almost out,
almost time for swim-ming,
you can swim and hold your breath,
hold your breath under water
and float.
School's almost out,
almost time for wor-king,
blah blah, wor-king
yucky.

flavors

I had a pretty awful dream last night. But also very illuminating.

Metaphorically, it gave me the chance to taste the difference between pity and compassion.

I'll describe more as I mull and let the dream settle.

Spring is here but there is danger in the air.

VT Governor Douglas’s speech yesterday: the medium is the message. Not only did he inform the public that he is going to veto the same-sex marriage bill, but he twisted the knife, telling people that one of the most important issues in their lives, is a mere distraction to the state. Oh, pesky little thing like equal rights.

Besides his egregiously backward and hate-filled beliefs, I was also disturbed by his admission that he is unable to handle balancing a lot of issues. That’s at the top of the list of what the governor and political leaders should be able to do during the session. Second to: listen to the people he represents and ensure liberty and justice for all.

P.S. Gov – “atheist and religious” are not polarities.
